As a global leader in vehicle remarketing and recycling, Copart has always been committed to environmental sustainability.
From our inception in 1982, we have played a critical role in the automotive circular economy, enabling the recycling and reuse of vehicles and automotive parts, while facilitating access to transportation around the world.
With sustainability now a strong focus around the globe, our customers, partners, and stakeholders expect Copart to continue leading by example, so we’re pleased to let you know that our Plan-Net-Zero programme is well underway.
A major aspect of this is our commitment to The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), joining more than 3,000 businesses that are working to reduce their emissions.
Copart is part of the ‘Business Ambition for 1.5°C’ campaign, a group of companies that are playing their part to help halve global emissions by 2030, and we’ve committed to the SBTi Net-Zero Standard. This means we now have a clearly defined pathway towards reducing our emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals, and have set robust targets and actions to reduce our emissions over the next 5-10 years.
We also know that in order to be a greener business, our teammates need to live and breathe sustainability values both inside and outside of work.
With this in mind, we began a company-wide roll out of Carbon Literacy training last year and we have already achieved a silver level accreditation in record time.
We’re now focused on achieving the gold accreditation in 2023 by delivering the training to even more of our teammates and we’re already making fantastic progress towards this goal.
Just some of the other initiatives helping us to achieve our ambition of becoming a more sustainable business by achieving net-zero emissions, are:
- The continued expansion of UK recycling and green parts capabilities, including the launch of our Copart Recycling brand.
- Increased energy efficiency through smart technologies and innovative green solutions.
- Our partnership with HGVC, the first and only UK driver training provider to offer carbon neutral training.
- An ongoing sustainability refurbishment programme to upgrade and replace our offices to ensure they are energy-efficient and constructed responsibly.
- The introduction of more outside green spaces to our locations to improve air quality, encourage nature, and reduce our carbon footprint.
- An ongoing fleet replacement and expansion programme to provide Euro VI compliancy and lower mileage, fuel consumption, and emissions.
- Actively trialling more sustainable fuel options across our fleet.
We are continuously working with our partnership network across fleet, transport, infrastructure, and education, to review every aspect of our operations and identify more ways in which we can be a more sustainable business.
We’re excited about making further meaningful and measurable changes as we continue on our Plan-Net-Zero journey towards a greener future!
