Keeping Personally Identifiable Information (PII) safe and secure is essential – sensitive information must be handled carefully and appropriately.
There are two forms of PII that are often found in vehicles:
1. Physical items that contain personal information, such as letters, banks statements and business cards
2. Electronic data stored in a vehicles infotainment system
Infotainment systems in modern vehicles store a significant amount of personal data, from a driver’s home address in a satellite navigation system, through to smart phone data from advanced connectivity services such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
This PII presents a challenge to remove from total loss vehicles where we can access the vehicles, to make sure it is removed before it is sold at auction.
Our engineering team handle each vehicle on a case by case basis, and have a 100% record on all vehicles that need data to be removed by:
1. Physical items are removed from each vehicle, and securely bagged and stored
2. Electronic data is removed by resetting all infotainment systems to factory settings, where there is data to be cleansed and where access to the vehicle available
