Our Plan-Net-Zero programme is now fully in motion, and as the owner of the UK’s largest salvage transport fleet we’re fully committed to making sustainability the focal point of our future fleet strategy.
Over the last couple of years, we’ve made significant investment into new DAF & Volvo multi-car transporters and JCB loaders as part of our ongoing fleet replacement and expansion programme.
Our fleet has also been boosted by our recent acquisition of Hills Salvage & Recycling – The Green Parts Specialists. With all assets including the Hills UK transporter fleet and specialist technology systems included in the sale, an integration project is now underway.
This will further strengthen our logistical capabilities in line with growing customer demand and will bring Copart’s total owned UK wide logistics fleet to circa. 500.
Ongoing investment into all areas of our transport fleet will remain key as we head into the winter months, enabling us to react quickly to extreme weather events, and provide reduced cycle times and an efficient service for our customers.
From a tech perspective, investment into the deployment of the latest connected telematics across our fleet is enhancing efficiency and significantly lowering fuel consumption and emissions.
Our comprehensive driver behaviour telematics data not only improves driver productivity and long-term fleet sustainability, but also helps to lowers emissions and maintenance costs by planning the most intelligent and effective routes.
For the safety of our drivers and other road users, our DVS compliant transporters also have connected forward, rear and side-facing vehicle cameras as well as side sensors and left turn warning alarms.
Importantly, our transport fleet also includes both single and 3-car transporters. As well as the obvious environmental benefits, these vehicles further strengthen our operational capabilities by enabling our drivers to access challenging collections where there are HGV limitations or restrictions in place.
And, because of the strategic and unrivalled positioning of our sites across the country, we are proud to say that we are never far from urban communities, and therefore our customers. This means that we can collect and handle vehicles quickly, efficiently, and with minimal environmental impact.
We’re very aware that as a global market leader, our insurance customers expect us to be a sustainable partner/green supplier and lead by example, so we’re passionate about rising to (and exceeding!) this challenge.
Supporting our Plan-Net-Zero commitment to achieving the ‘Greenest Fleet on the Street’ we’re:
- Providing Euro VI and DVS (Direct Vision Standard) compliancy across our transporter fleet.
- Investing significantly into JCB loaders with lower fuel consumption and emissions to minimise our environmental impact.
- Investing into single and 3-car transporters to enhance fleet efficiency and further reduce carbon emissions.
- Running our Driver Academy Programme in partnership with HGVC, the first and only UK driver training provider to offer carbon neutral training.
But of course, sustainability is everyone’s responsibility, and we must work together across the industry to make transformative changes. 💙
We’ll continue to work closely with our partnership network across fleet, transport, infrastructure, and education, reviewing everything from training to the most sustainable fuel options to ensure we operate the Greenest Fleet on the Street and play our part in creating a sustainable future.
