We’re delighted to receive delivery of brand-new DAF 3-car transporters, strengthening our operational capabilities and supporting our Plan-Net-Zero sustainability strategy to achieve the ‘Greenest Fleet on the Street’.
With the UK’s largest salvage transport fleet, sustainability is a focal point of our future strategy. In line with the rest of our 250-strong transport fleet, these 16-tonne 3-car transporters are Euro VI and DVS (Direct Vision Standard) compliant.
A total of 20 new 3-car transporters are due to be distributed across our nationwide Operation Centres over the next few months.
As well as enhancing efficiency and significantly lowering fuel consumption and emissions, this investment will further strengthen our operational capabilities by enabling our drivers to successfully tackle more challenging vehicle collections.
Being smaller and more manoeuvrable than our larger multi-car transporters, 3-car transporters provide easier access to collections within inner city and rural areas where there are often HGV limitations or restrictions in place.
Phil Briggs, Director of Operation Centres, Transport & Engineering, said:
“Collections with restricted access would have previously made us reliant on using a subhauler, which would have resulted in higher costs for our customers.
“By investing into more 3-car transporters for our fleet means our drivers can easily handle this type of collection, putting Copart in control of costs and enabling us to maintain a high standard of customer service.”
In addition, the visibility of a Copart owned and branded vehicle with a uniformed driver provides consistency and familiarity for our customers, and helps strengthen our reputation within the communities we work in.
This investment into our fleet also supports our ongoing investment into the personal development of our teammates as part of our Driver Academy Programme.
We launched our Driver Academy in January 2022, in partnership with HGVC, the leading provider of commercial licence acquisition training courses in the UK, to secure the future supply of highly skilled Copart drivers.
With this programme, we aim to deliver 100 new fully trained drivers in the first year as part of our wider expansion plans to continually enhance our vehicle collection and delivery capabilities across the UK.
As part of their induction period, our Driver Academy recruits can gain essential experience and build their confidence using these smaller 3-car transporters before progressing on to our larger 26-tonne multi-car transporters.
