We’ve just been awarded a milestone badge from the Ecologi platform for planting 1,000 trees, adding to the wide range of environmental accreditations and achievements that are supporting our ongoing Plan-Net-Zero commitment.
Our investment into a virtual Copart forest with Ecologi gives us, as a business, the option to donate towards reforestation or carbon avoidance schemes. For example, we purchase trees to be planted in the UK for every new enrolee into our Copart Driver Academy.
Copart’s donations help Ecologi to support projects that are proven to reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions. This includes a range of carbon avoidance projects that are certified by Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard.
Over 1,000 trees have now been purchased by Copart to date and planted across the UK, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, Senegal, and Ethiopia, which our teammates can view on our virtual forest map.
Not only that, but Copart has supported the prevention of 6 tCO2e from being emitted through donating to two verified carbon avoidance projects – Solar PV electricity generation in Indonesia, and Protection of the Matavén forest in eastern Colombia.
We’re thrilled that our teammates are also getting engaged and involved with many having purchased trees following their Carbon Literacy training, which we are currently rolling out across the business (and are well on our way to achieving Gold Standard with!)
And from a broader perspective, it’s great to know that every tree we add to Copart’s virtual forest is contributing to Ecologi’s wider success.
As part of a network of over 40k members, we are helping to make a huge environmental impact, with a total of 69 million trees funded and 2.8 million tonnes of CO2e avoided.
Jane Pocock, CEO of Copart UK & Ireland, said:
“Copart has always been committed to environmental sustainability and we’ve played a critical role in the automotive circular economy since our inception in 1982, enabling the recycling and reuse of vehicles and automotive parts, while facilitating access to transportation around the world.
As a global leader in our field, our customers, partners, and stakeholders quite rightly expect us to continue leading by example, so we continuously review every aspect of our operations to identify more ways in which we can be a more sustainable business.
Investing into Ecologi is yet another way we can make a tangible difference to the environment alongside our other Plan-Net-Zero initiatives.”
