Extending the life of flood-damaged vehicles with our Polygon Partnership

by | Feb 3, 2025

The recent storms may have caused flood damage to vehicles across the country, but thanks to our exclusive partnership with Polygon Restoration Services, these vehicles can still enjoy a new lease of life through Copart.

With extreme weather events becoming more commonplace, we’re delighted to be able to offer our customers unique and bespoke vehicle recovery, restoration and resale services for flood or fire damaged vehicles.

Flood or fire damage to vehicles can significantly reduce returns at auction, but our partnership with Polygon, a specialist drying and decontamination business, helps our customers to recover the best possible value.

This compliments our well-established emergency response and surge management capabilities, which enable us to rapidly handle large volumes of vehicles following flooding or other catastrophic incidents.

And with the number of electric and hybrid vehicles steadily increasing in the UK car parc, it’s essential that they handled safely by experts following flood damage due to waterlogging and corrosion of the battery packs, and potentially high or even lethal voltage.

Polygon’s patented vehicle restoration process offers our customers innovative solutions for recovering the best possible value from vehicles that have suffered damage due to water (or smoke).

Water damaged vehicles are fully disassembled in a controlled environment, including removing carpets, upholstery, and trim to allow for further assessment and decontamination.

A bespoke restoration plan is then put into place, which might include elimination of moulds and contaminants, ultrasonic cleaning process, odour removal, dehumidification, and bacteria testing.

By using the Polygon service, our insurance customers benefit exclusively from:

  • Vehicle collection from the damaged site and assessment by Copart
  • Polygon triage service from images
  • Delivery of vehicle by Copart to Polygon
  • Report and hygiene test supplied by Polygon
  • Vehicles returned to a condition which enables them, in some cases, to be returned to the policy holder
  • Maximum exposure to Copart’s global buyer base
  • Improved sales return at auction due to vehicle re-categorisation following completion of the decontamination process.

Following the recent flurry of storms, we’re delighted that the specialist treatments available through our exclusive partnership with Polygon Restoration are enabling our insurance customers to either return water-damaged vehicles to their policy holders or achieve higher returns through our patented online auctions.

Extending the life of flood and fire damaged vehicles through value-added services like this help to support our sustainability goals by reducing scrappage and contributes towards the successful delivery of our Plan-Net-Zero commitment. ♻️
