At Copart, supporting our teammates’ mental health and wellbeing is something we take very seriously, so we’re delighted to show our support for Time to Talk Day on 4th February.
Time to Talk Day aims to get the nation talking about mental health and is part of Time to Change, a growing social movement working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems.
Investing into mental health training
An important element of this is spotting the signs of mental health conditions, so that the right support can be offered. We have previously invested into Mental Health Awareness training courses for 54 managers across our business, in association with the charity Ben which provides health and wellbeing support services to the automotive industry.
These managers have now developed the skills needed to potentially identify mental health issues in their teams, so that the necessary support can be provided at the very earliest opportunity.
This year, we are planning to invest into further training courses in association with Ben, to provide managers with additional knowledge about understanding and managing the impact of mental health in the workplace.
Free support services
In addition to utilising Ben’s training courses, we have been a proud supporter of this charity for many years. We adopted them as our chosen company charity back in 2015 and hold various fundraising activities on their behalf.
We are lucky at Copart to have free access to a range of health and wellbeing support services from Ben, including a confidential helpline and a wide range of online tips and tools.
We regularly inform our teammates about Ben’s support services via our e-newsletters and intranet. We recently promoted Ben’s newly launched SilverCloud platform, which Copart teammates have free access to.
SilverCloud is a leading digital mental health and wellbeing platform that uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach, which focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. There is a wide range of different programmes available, on topics including stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as supporting issues such as money worries, sleep, and resilience.
Encouraging awareness
We’re very aware that the ongoing pandemic has had an impact on everyone’s mental health. On this Time to Talk Day, we have sent out an awareness campaign to our teammates, encouraging them to take some time out and connect with someone that might be struggling.
We have provided sign posting to Ben’s support services, as well as useful information and tips from Time to Change and mental health charity Mind.
Helen Gilbert, Head of UK Human Resources at Copart, said:
“Here at Copart, we are committed to the wellbeing of our teammates. We’re continuously exploring opportunities for mental health support, training, and awareness, and Time to Talk Day is a perfect opportunity to encourage conversations around this topic.
Today, we’re asking Copart teammates to make a difference by increasing their awareness of mental health issues, or by simply making a quick call to someone who might be struggling. Our message to teammates today is that small conversations can have a big impact, and we all need to keep talking to help end mental health stigma.”
