UK Motor Manufacturing in 2016

Last week one of the biggest events in the automotive industry calendar took place in Paris. The Paris motor show, which takes place every 2 years, provides car manufacturers with the opportunity to present their newest models in lavish style.

The event was also used to promote the UK motor manufacturing industry by lining up eight of the UKs most iconic brands next to the Eiffel tower. The aim was to promote the strength, diversity and quality of the UK automotive market.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, stated: “The UK automotive industry is respected globally for its rich heritage, iconic brands and engineering excellence”.

Some of the most iconic British motors include Aston Martin, BMW, MINI, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, McLaren, Nissan, Toyota and Vauxhall.

UK manufacturing industry highlights, (SMMT, 2016):

  • There are 2,000+ automotive suppliers in the UK
  • 18 of the world’s 20 biggest automotive suppliers are from the UK
  • UK car manufacturing turned over £69.5 billion in 2015
  • £2.4billion was invested into Research & Development
  • The UK exported vehicles to more than 100 countries across the globe
