Winter-ready long before winter

When people think about being ‘winter-ready’ they often think about what happens in the months just before the colder weather arrives.

Phil Briggs (Director of Operation Centres, Transport & SVO) explains how preparation starts much earlier at Copart.

We’re always looking ahead, reviewing performance, identifying opportunities to strengthen our capabilities, and making investments that ensure we’re ready to support our customers whatever the weather brings.

A big part of that preparation is investing in capacity.

We’re continually expanding our storage and contingency land across our operational network through acquisitions and site extensions, giving us the flexibility and resilience needed to respond to increased volumes and weather-related events.

With a nationwide presence spanning more than 1,100 acres and growing, we make sure that we’re always close to our customers when they need us most.

Alongside that, we’re investing specialist equipment and training, ensuring our teams have the resources and knowledge they need to recover, handle and process vehicles safely and efficiently, even in the most challenging conditions.

Our 500+ transport fleet plays a critical role too

Having direct control of our fleet means we can deploy quickly and efficiently wherever we’re needed, and a diverse range of vehicle types gives us the flexibility to respond to even the most challenging collections and recovery situations.

But readiness is about more than our land and equipment. It’s also about our people.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the expertise and experience we have within our Emergency Response team. These are teammates who have supported our customers and communities through severe weather events and other emergency incidents across the UK and beyond.

Equipped with cutting-edge mobile vehicle processing technology, they can assess, image and process vehicles quickly on-site, helping minimise disruption and support faster outcomes for our customers and their policyholders.

Their knowledge, professionalism, and ability to respond swiftly and efficiently is a huge part of what makes our winter response capabilities so effective.

Operational resilience isn’t something that we just switch on overnight.

It builds continuously through investment, careful planning, and highly experienced teams working together to support our customers and communities when it matters most.

So, while you’re enjoying the summer months, we’re already focused on ensuring our infrastructure, people, and operations are ready for whatever lies ahead this winter.
