Here at Copart giving our time to good causes is really important to us. That’s why we offer all teammates an additional day of leave to support a charity that is close to their heart.
To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we wanted to share just a few recent ‘Giving it Back Day’ stories from our teammates.
Member Support Executive, Jazmin, volunteered at Appledown Rescue and Rehoming Kennels in Dunstable.
My first job there was to feed the dogs and wow, there’s a lot of food bowls to get out! The noise was loud with all the dogs barking as of course they are just pleased to see people and excited to get ten-minutes out of their cages individually while been cleaned out.
Later the dog walkers arrived, and I went on to poo pick the big run outside which took a while using a brush and shovel.
After the day, I felt like I really need to help this charity as they rely on donations to keep them going. The staff there are very committed and are very busy.
I am looking into sponsoring a dog out of my own money and if I didn’t have two dogs already, I would rehome one of these beautiful dogs.
If you’re looking to get a new dog, please look into rehoming a dog, they all deserve to be loved and cared for and need to be part of a family.

Vehicle Engineer, Allan, volunteered at the Bloodhound Education Centre in Gloucester.
This UK charity provides exciting, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) activities for students aged 7 upwards, as well as resources for teachers and parents to support learning in the classroom.
The charity is supported by donations, grants, STEM companies and associated organisations; the Bloodhound Ambassador Programme is made up of individual and corporate volunteers. I spent the whole day welcoming visitors to the education centre stand. We even had a full-size show car present. The day was spent engaging with the visitors and meeting lots of different people.
Over 500 visitors came to hear about our STEM engagement on the stand, talking about how to get into engineering and what Project Bloodhound is all about.
My participation with this charity has been ongoing since 2010 and I thoroughly enjoy it! I would highly recommend joining as an ambassador to support the events.

Office Manager, Cheryl, volunteered at Rudgeway Donkey Sanctuary in Bristol.
Rudgeway Donkey Sanctuary is an organisation that provides educational needs for people with learning disabilities and also allows young people to complete their Duke of Edinburgh award whilst caring for the donkeys.
The sanctuary supports a number of donkeys whose owners were no longer able to provide a home for them or look after them. They are looked after very well, alongside donkeys that have always lived here.
My day was spent preparing two donkeys (TJ and Fantasy) (both previous champions) for the National Donkey Show. This involved loading the donkeys into the horse box, preparing and fitting their show bridals, and bathing/grooming so they looked their best.
I really enjoyed the hands-on time I spent with the donkeys, and I would definitely recommend any of my colleagues thinking about volunteering to do it. It’s such a rewarding experience and the charities are so appreciative of any help. You leave with a real sense of accomplishment.
Thank you to Copart, for the opportunity to enable me to do this!
This year, Volunteers’ Week celebrates 40 years of inspiring more people to make a difference. Find out more.
