We’re delighted that our recent investment into 3.5 tonne single car transporters is successfully enabling Copart drivers to tackle our more complex and challenging vehicle collections.
In October, we invested into these smaller, more manoeuvrable transporters to further strengthen our fleet’s operational capabilities.
Having made a significant investment into 150 new DAF and Volvo based purpose built multi-car transporters and 42 new JCB loaders earlier in the year, this latest strand of Copart’s overall strategic investment plan was focused on addressing our more challenging vehicle collections. This includes collections from inner-city and rural areas of the country, where there are often restrictions on LGV access.
Copart driver, Rohan, from our Operation Centre in Sandy, has recently seen first-hand the advantages of this new addition to our fleet when dealing with the collection of a vehicle with restricted access issues.
A regular Copart multi-car transporter would not have fitted into the area where the vehicle was located and previously this would have resulted in the deployment of a subhauler. But, with access to a single car transporter, Rohan was able to visit the location, secure the vehicle and return it to our Sandy Operation Centre with no issues.
The visibility of a Copart owned and branded vehicle, alongside a uniformed driver like Rohan, who is employed and trained directly by Copart, provides consistency for our customers, and helps strengthen our reputation within the communities in which we operate.
Lee McDonald, General Manager at Sandy, said:
“A collection with restricted access would have previously made us reliant on using a subhauler, which would have resulted in higher costs. Using the single car transporter, Rohan was able to easily collect the vehicle, putting Copart back in control of managing both cost and maintaining a high standard of customer service.
The visibility of a Copart owned and branded vehicle, alongside a uniformed driver like Rohan, who is employed and trained directly by Copart, provides consistency for our customers and helps strengthen our reputation.”
A resounding success for the Seller, Copart and Rohan – this return on the investment into our fleet also supports our ongoing investment into the personal development of our people.
As drivers of these single car transporters do not require an LGV qualification, Rohan was able to integrate the necessary training to become a T35 Transporter Driver into his daily routine, learning ‘on the job’.
Phil Briggs, Director of Operation Centres, Transport and Engineering, said:
“Our investment into 3.5 tonne single-car transporters not only helps to reduce cycle times for our customers, but also provides a fantastic platform for employees like Rohan to pursue a driving career and potentially become a fully qualified Copart LGV driver.
Rohan is doing extremely well in his new role, having started with Copart as a Yard Operative. He is motivated and dedicated, and in future we hope he will progress towards achieving a full LGV C+E category licence, which is currently held by Copart’s wider driver community.”
The new 3.5 tonne single car transporters have been deployed across some of our largest nationwide Operation Centres, strengthening our fleet and operational capabilities as we head into out busy winter period.
