It’s World Values Day on 15th October, an annual campaign which aims to increase the awareness and practice of values around the world.
World Values Day provides a perfect opportunity to think about our most deeply held values and explore and act on them with others. The vision for World Values Day is to put values at the heart of society around the world.
The Copart Values
Here at Copart, we’re very proud of our company values. They are at the heart of everything we do.
Our Copart Values are the foundation of who we are, and what we do.
As a business, we strive to provide our customers with an unmatched experience and are continually seeking ways to improve our services.
This is underpinned by the values demonstrated by every one of our teammates, every day. We are very proud of our ‘family’ culture, and the dedication of our people in providing the highest level of support to both customers and fellow teammates.
- Act with integrity– treating others in the right way and doing the right thing
- Be an owner– taking responsibility for problems and solutions
- Challenge the norm– continuously looking for opportunities to improve or innovate
- Get results– delivering on our promises and doing what we say we will do
- Celebrate our people– sharing individual and collective success by celebrating it with others
Copart in the Community
Our Value ‘Act with integrity’ is one we are proud to have extended outside of our business to our local communities and to a range of charitable causes.
We’ve been delighted to have been invited on several occasions to visit local schools, giving us an opportunity to engage with the local communities close to our Operation Centres and raise awareness about what we do.
We’ve always found this experience to be extremely rewarding and have received great feedback from the schools, who say that our visits really inspire the children’s writing, questioning, and thinking skills.
We like to support local students with their studies and encourage relationship building with other companies in our local areas.
For several years, our Sandwich facility has hosted an annual event for Canterbury College forensic students, where they are given the opportunity to investigate and do forensic reports on accident damaged vehicles.
The investigation includes photography, vehicle measurements and evidence recovery — allowing the students to complete an assessment for their qualification which cannot be done in a classroom.
The college does not have practical areas at the college for students to learn, so coming to Copart is a great help to the college and students to work on actual accident damaged vehicles.
“It is rare that a company gives up so much time to support students with their studies and this is an excellent example with Copart supporting Canterbury College and working together to build relations with a local company. Thanks again for the support that Copart gives us.” – Canterbury College
And, earlier this year, Copart and sister company U-Pull-It were delighted to support the Yorkshire Air Museum Fire and Rescue Service (located close to one of our nationwide Operation Centres) by donating and delivering a vehicle for the crew to use in road traffic collision training.
With the challenges of covid-19 impacting many businesses and charitable organisations, we feel that it now more important than ever to help out wherever we can.
Our donation enabled the team to practise real-life scenarios on a physical vehicle, which is vital to their learning and development.
“It was our crew’s examination for their aviation firefighting certification and all of them passed which was fantastic. We couldn’t have done that without Copart’s help with the vehicle, so everyone is grateful for that.” – Yorkshire Air Museum
Charitable Giving
We’ve established a culture that is committed to charitable giving. Across our 18 UK locations we support local initiatives, as well as participating in national charitable events throughout the year, including the Macmillan Coffee Morning and Save the Children’s ‘Christmas Jumper Day’.
Our Wootton Head Office has a long-standing relationship with the All Nations Church in Bedford, supporting their annual ‘Christmas in a Box’ appeal for the Bedford Foodbank.
Each year, Copart teammates fill boxes with donations of food essentials as well as Christmas treats, to help make a real difference to local people in crisis.
We’re also a proud advocate of the registered charity, BEN, who provide health and wellbeing support to those working in the automotive industry.
We adopted BEN as our ‘company charity’ in 2015 and hold regular fundraising events across our 18 UK locations throughout the year.
And, as part of our corporate partnership with ILC (I Love Claims) – the leading forum for UK claims professionals in the Motor, Household, Commercial and Claims Technology sectors – we’re proud to support the annual ILC Day.
Every year, we join forces with other members of the claims community to raise vital funds for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
This fantastic charity provides bespoke support for families who have a child with a serious illness and in 2020 alone, Copart teammates across 18 UK locations helped to raise over £2,000 by wearing red to work and arranging bake sales, raffles, and games.
Employee Recognition Schemes
Our employee recognition schemes give us the perfect platform to demonstrate our value ‘Celebrate our People’.
Long Service Awards
We value the skills and experience of our long serving teammates and consider our annual Long Service Awards to be one of the most important forms of recognition and celebration.
They reward our teammates for their dedication and loyalty to our business and play a key role in employee motivation and engagement.
Copart teammates with 5, 10, 15, and 20-years’ continuous service are presented with a certificate and shopping vouchers. We also, under normal circumstances, hold an annual off-site Long Service Awards Lunch to celebrate with teammates who have 25 years or more continuous service.
In 2020, we were delighted to recognise over 100 Copart UK employees for Long Service milestones. It is thanks to these long serving employees that we have continued to establish effective and trusted long-term relationships with our customers.
Superstar Awards
We are committed to recognising our teammates for their achievements and hard work. We feel it’s more important than ever right now to keep teams motivated and engaged as we face the various challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our Superstar Scheme, which was launched in 2019 to replace our previous scheme, enables our employees and customers to nominate any teammate who has gone above and beyond, regardless of their job role.
Each quarter, we select Superstar Winners from across all areas of our business, who have exceeded the expectations of their normal duties and have demonstrated one or more of our Copart Values.
“We think it’s really important to reward and recognise hard work, and we want all of our Superstars to have a light shone on their individual achievements and contribution to the ongoing success of Copart. We want everyone to embrace our Values and continually demonstrate them in everything they do when serving our customers or assisting their fellow teammates.” – Jane Pocock, Managing Director of Copart UK & Ireland
