We like to play an active role in supporting our local communities, so we’re delighted to have recently given a helping hand to the Yorkshire Air Museum Fire and Rescue Service, which is located close to one of our nationwide Operation Centres in York.
The Yorkshire Air Museum is the largest independent aviation museum in the UK. It is located in Elvington, York on the site of the former RAF Elvington airfield, and was first opened to the public in the early 1980s.
The museum has an in-house fire and rescue team, which is considered unique amongst aviation museums. This small, dedicated team is manned by volunteers, many of whom have decades of experience of professional fire and rescue.
They train regularly towards CAA fire safety standards and their attendance at special events on-site means that the museum can safely operate and demonstrate classic jets and propeller aircraft.
Earlier this month, Copart and sister company U-Pull-It were delighted to support the fire and rescue team’s ongoing training by donating and delivering a vehicle for the crew to use in road traffic collision training.
This enabled the team to practise real-life scenarios on a physical vehicle, which is vital to their learning and development.
Adrian Cummings, General Manager at the Copart Operation Centre in York said:
“When Yorkshire Air Museum approached us about donating a vehicle, we were keen to be a ‘good neighbour’ and do our bit to support our local community. Our teammates at UPI York sourced a vehicle and we arranged for a Copart driver to deliver it in time for their weekend training event.”
Playing an active role in our communities has always been important to Copart and we are regularly involved in a range of events and activities to support local businesses, schools, colleges and universities.
And, with the challenges of covid-19 impacting many businesses and charitable organisations, we feel that it now more important than ever to help out wherever we can.
Following the training event, a representative from the Fire & Rescue Service said:
“We had a great weekend – it was our crew’s examination for their aviation firefighting certification and all of them passed which was fantastic. We couldn’t have done that without Copart’s help with the vehicle, so everyone is grateful for that”.
